The most common problem I see with four-piece Space Case grinders is the screen tearing. It is a real bummer because you can’t simply replace the screen. If your screen tears, the only solution is to take advantage of the lifetime warranty. The most common reason for the screen tearing is the scraping triangle getting stuck while you open the grinder.
Your Space Case is shipped with the scraper in the bottom compartment. I would recommend removing it from the Space Case and storing it somewhere else. If the scraping triangle is in the bottom compartment and is not sitting completely flat, the scraper can get caught in the screen while you’re opening the grinder. This makes the grinder seem stuck. A natural reaction is to twist the lid harder. This can cause the scraper to puncture a hole in the screen.
If you do store the scraper in the bottom compartment and notice that your grinder seems stuck when you’re opening the bottom, close it back up and shake the grinder to get the scraper to fall flat on the bottom. Open it carefully without much pressure. If you feel any resistance, close it and repeat.
It really sucks to have to toss out such a high quality grinder (or use it without a proper screen) because of a simple hole in the screen.
Not storing the scraper right inside your Space Case grinder can be inconvenient because it is easy to lose that little thing. To help you out, when purchasing any of our products, add a replacement scraper for free with the coupon code: TRIANGLE13
